Slowing Down: Making Homemade Christmas Cards

This year, I decided to streamline the card list. This was an act of being very intentional.

Over the years, the list expands, but do we really need to send cards to people we didn’t connect with even once this year?

I thought I had a few cards leftover from last year, but I couldn’t find them. I couldn’t find the chicken ones online from Tractor Supply either. So, I decided I wanted to do something homey—MAKE cards.

Supplies:

  • Blank cards and envelopes (substitute for printer paper, construction paper, whatever you can find). We went with a 4x6 blank set from Amazon.

  • Paints

  • Imagination

I couldn’t have been more thrilled or proud of the results. My children came up with the most creative ideas-- things I never would have thought of like an elf carrying a log from the forest…or an ornament with a striped background.

It’s always so magical to experience their creativity. And this project helped them to share it with family and friends, too.

(I did try making a few, but wow, did shame and embarrassment come up because I didn’t think they were very nice. Looks like I have something to work on.)
